How To Improve Reading Comprehension

Comments (1,477)

howard-crop- Years ago the famed TV talk show host Dick Cavett
told me a funny Woody Allen story after he interviewed me on MSNBC.
Apparently Woody just completed a speed reading course, and was proud
of his ability to read, "War and Peace," in just five minutes. Dick
was stunned at Woody's incredible reading speed, and asked him what he
remembered about the huge book. Woody replied, "it was about the
Russian Revolution and that is all I remember." Fortunately, I found
a way to not only read faster but also improve reading comprehension.
Let me give you a powerful strategy you can immediately use while
reading.

The key to understanding reading can be summed up in a single word:
"schema". Schema is a technical word, but simply means using what you
already understand to make text easier to comprehend. Let's do a
simple experiment to see precisely how it works. I will give you a
couple of sentences that lack schema, and watch how hard it is to
understand their meaning. Then I will provide you with a single word
title that has schema, and instantly the same text will be effortless
to comprehend. Let's do it.

Here is the schema-less text: This is an easy thing to do. If
possible you can do it at home, but you can always go somewhere else if
it is necessary. Beware of overdoing it, because a mistake can be
expensive as well.

Notice how confusing this text appears to be. Now put the title,
"Laundry", on top of the same text and see how easy it is to
comprehend:

Laundry

This is an easy thing to do. If possible you can do it at home, but
you can always go somewhere else if it is necessary. Beware of
overdoing it, because a mistake can be expensive as well.

Now you can easily read the text because you know it is about
laundry. Learning to use schema while speed reading will improve
reading comprehension. Many people coming to my live speed reading
class have told me that my Maximum Power Reading Program made it easier
for them to comprehend and retain information because I taught them not
just about reading speed, but also about how to improve reading
comprehension. After all, you don't want to be like Woody Allen and
only remember one sentence from a book you are going to get tested on.
Do you?

Faster Reading - The Most Important Skill?

Faster Reading - The Most Important Skill?

Why is faster reading the most important skill you can learn? In
this article, I will give you three powerful reasons why this is true.
Let's begin by considering the workplace.

How much information do you need to read each day to effectively
perform your work? Did you know that the information you need to
know doubles every six months? Intel reported losing almost one
billion dollars a year because of missed or forgotten information.
How much is lost or missing information costing your company? Faster
reading when integrated with powerful learning strategies can serve as
a total knowledge management solution for your company. That is why
many Fortune 500 companies have paid me thousands of dollars to teach
their associates faster reading.

School is another place where faster reading is essential. Did you
know that 40% of high school students fail to graduate? Did you know
that 50% of students attending four year colleges, and 70% of students
attending two year colleges fail to graduate? Just think about how
much time and money is invested into getting a student enrolled in a
college, only to find out that they don't read fast enough to complete
their studies. When I give seminars to parents I often tell them that
my program is like a hedge fund for students. They are investing tens
of thousands, and in some cases hundreds of thousands of dollars into
their student's education, and lose their entire investment because
they didn't spend a few dollars on teaching their student faster
reading.

Finally there are the baby boomers like me. Did you know that the
Baltimore and Seattle Longitudinal studies on aging stated that reading
was one of the most important things you can do as you age to keep your
brain youthful. The study was done on people who were 80 years of age
or older. They found that seniors who read had a lower onset of
dementia and Alzheimer's disease. My program takes a few short hours
to learn, and I believe it makes reading so much fun to do that you'll
find yourself reading more books than ever before. A double win for
you. Not only will reading faster help you stay better informed as you
age, it can help support healthy brain function.

A Powerful Speedreading Secret Revealed At Last!

A Powerful Speedreading Secret Revealed

Why is it easier to read the road while driving in a car at 70 miles
per hour in four directions, than it is to read a book at 200 words per
minute in a single direction? The answer to this question reveals the
single most powerful speedreading secret.

When you think about it, reading the road while driving should be
harder than reading a book. You not only have to watch the road, but
also monitor you instruments, watch the road signs, and follow you
driving instructions. Yet, it is so boring you turn on the radio,
talk to friends, and talk on your cell phone. Reading is only one
direction, but driving in a car and talking on a cell phone is
easier. There is a simple explanation.

When you drive your brain views all the information around you like it
was a movie. This enables you to take in large amounts of
information very quickly. Reading is very different. While reading,
it seems like there is a little person in the back of your brain. This
little person looks through your eyes and see's the book. This person
pronounces the words on the page, ONE...AT...A...TIME. You don't see
a book with you eyes while reading--you hear it. That's what slows
down your reading speed.

Did you know that it only takes a few short hours to learn how to see
the same movie in a book than you routinely see while driving in a
car? We believe that Maximum Power Reading is the most powerful
speedreading program because it not only teaches you how to read more
visually, it also teaches how to improve reading comprehension. Best
of all you can try Maximum Power Reading risk free and experience for
yourself how easy it is to learn speedreading.

A Speed Reading Course With An Efficacy Study Proving It Works!

What if you knew for certain that a speed reading program had been
proven to double an average reader in a few short hours, while
retaining them comprehension? Wouldn't you want to try that program
so you could stay on top of the important reading that is piling up in
your home, office, or school? When you think about how many emails,
letters, books, magazines, and other material you need to learn every
day it just makes sense that a good speed reading course could help you
succeed. I have good news. A double blind study was done on an
earlier version of my speed reading program and you are going to be
amazed at what they study proved.

Flash back to the 90's when my "Mega Speed Reading" audio tape program
was being featured by Nightingale Conant around the world. The program
was sent to a professional educational testing service that was able to
prove that an average individual could double their reading speed in
just a few short hours and still have excellent comprehension.

Mega Speed Reading would later evolve into the Maximum Power Reading
program DVD course I currently teach. All of the techniques that were
tested in my original program were kept, but many more power learning
strategies were added to help you maximize your reading speed. What
is truly amazing is the participants in this study increased their
reading speed in about 4-5 hours time. Imagine how much they might
improve by continuing to practice. Can you think of anything you learn
that doesn't improve with practice? Neither can I.

My work has been hailed in Selling, Red Book, Men's Health, Bottom
Line, and on over 1,000 radio and television programs as a major
learning breakthrough. Maximum Power Reading is my most up to date and
powerful speed reading course. Best of all you can try the first
lesson risk free, and the entire program has a total satisfaction
guarantee. Now is the perfect time to discover for yourself how my
speed reading course can change your life for the better. Take a
moment and get started now...

The Secret of Reading Plus

The Secret of Reading Plus

Do you remember when your teacher or professor told you that studying
meant reading your book and your class notes? Guess what? Your
teacher was wrong. Reading is not learning. Surprised? Don't be.
In fact, the reason many people get dismal results even when they put a
great deal of effort into studying is they believe that reading alone
is sufficient for learning to take place. So what is the secret to
actually learning information? It is learning to go beyond reading,
all the way to reading plus. As the world's fastest reader let me
teach you how to put this powerful secret to work for you.

Did you know that there are three different types of learning you can
glean from reading a book? These three different learning types are
called literal, implied, and inferential, and understanding the
differences between them is the secret to becoming an expert at reading
plus. Let's begin with literal learning.

The words you read on a page are the basis for literal reading. This
information often needs to be committed to memory and includes, people,
place, things, and their actions. It involves no interpretation.
All it requires is rote memory of the specific items stated precisely
in your text.

Understanding implied reading is the next step to learning reading
plus. Implied reading is learning to read between the lines.
Writer's presume we know something before we began reading their book
and don't feel obligated to explain the meaning of everything they
say. For example, I expect you to understand what I am saying in the
next sentence. "The man wore a cowboy hat." I am certain you
recognize the words, "man, wore, cowboy, and hat," and don't need me to
provide you with a detailed definition for each word. In fact, if you
didn't already know something about the world in which you live, you
would not be able to read at all. However, sometimes presumptions
made by the writer can cause comprehension problems. Let's see how.

Imagine two people are reading the book, "Moby Dick." One person grew
up and lives in Portland, Maine. They regularly go fishing on the
Atlantic Ocean, and have even spotted a few whales over the years. The
other individual was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico in the
middle of the desert. Doesn't it make sense that these two people
will not share identical experiences when reading a book about whaling
on the ocean? Certainly the individual who has spent considerable
time on the ocean will interpret the same text quite differently from
the individual born and raised in the desert. Do you now see how our
different experiences can sometimes create learning challenges on the
implied level. Reading plus requires you to recognize these
differences to maximize your learning.

The highest level of reading is called, "inferential reading."
Inferential reading is using the knowledge you possess before you even
open the book to improve your understanding. For example, even if you
memorize a book on how to perform open heart surgery, it is doubtful
that any hospital would let you use an operating room to volunteer to
perform this procedure. Simply reading a book about open heart surgery
doesn't prepare you either as a doctor or as a surgeon to perform this
delicate work.

On the other hand, an experienced surgeon reading the exact same book
might be able to quickly use this information to successfully treat
patients. Inferential reading requires you to integrate all the
knowledge you possess about a subject in combination with the material
in your text to maximize your learning.

Reading plus is learning how to distinguish between literal, implied,
and inferential material in a book. This is the first step to
becoming masterful at reading comprehension. You can learn many more
powerful reading and learning strategies in a complimentary video I've
created just for you at SpeedReadingUniversity

The Quantum Learning Advantage

5 Quantum Learning Secrets

How many times have you studied diligently for hours. Pouring over the
important words and terms needing to be memorized. Making certain
you could remember all these important items. Then on the very next
day you couldn't remember the material when asked about it during a
meeting or on an exam. How did that make you feel? Probably not very
good. I have exciting news. Quantum learning can provide you with a
solution to this problem, and much, much more. Even better--it is an
easy solution you can immediately use.

The root of your problem is simple to explain. Most people believe
they can learn without taking notes. Unfortunately, your conscious
brain can only juggle about seven items before it starts dropping
information. So most of your study time is wasted because your brain
is deleting facts almost as quickly as you are reading them. You see
how much time you spend studying is irrelevant. What is relevant is
taking detailed notes while studying. Taking notes helps the brain
to lock in information that would otherwise be quickly forgotten. So
what should you look for while taking notes?

There are 5 important items you need to include in your notes. These 5
items are:
1. The definitions for your vocabulary words
2. The accomplishments of each individual
3. The significance and use for each number, date, or statistic
4. The four key points covered in each section of your text and,
5. The answers to every question asked by the author.

It is important to define each of these terms in your own words.
This is based upon the work of Malcolm Knowles, a major contributor to
adult learning theory. I think you will find this story about how he
discovered the secret to quantum learning quite amazing.

Knowles was given an important job during World War II by President
Roosevelt. It was Malcolm's job to train woman how to efficiently
build the weapons necessary for winning the war. Woman had to work
in factories to build these weapons because most of the men were
overseas fighting in the war. Woman were told they would fail at
factory work, and their fears soon began to manifest themselves. At
the start of the war many woman were injured, and the weapons they
built didn't work. Knowles had very little time to fix the problem,
and didn't have a clue what to do. Until he caught a lucky break in a
factory lunchroom.

Knowles was sitting at a table near two woman who were speaking. He
overhead one woman say to her friend, "I don't know how to use a drill
press."

Malcolm cringed because this was the problem he had to fix. He was
astounded by the brilliant answer given by this lady's friend. Her
friend said, "it is easy to use. It is just like the mixing bowl in
the kitchen. You must pull down the handle and it spins through the
wood instead of going through the dough."

Knowle's had the discovered a quantum learning tool. Everyone needs
to learn new information in the context of what is already familiar to
them. That is why when you write down the information you are
creating in your notes. It is critical you create your own
definitions. By taking notes, and creating your own definitions your
brain will stop deleting the information it is learning because it
understands the relationship between this new material and something
you already understand.

Want to learn more powerful quantum learning strategies? I have
created a video chunk full of learning tips you can view in a
complimentary video at SpeedReadingUniversity. I know you
will find these quantum learning strategies invaluable in your work.

The 5 Things Necessary For Super Learning Success

5 Super Learning Success Tips

If you are the kind of person who has a great deal of information to
learn in a very short time, I have good news for you. Super learning
provides the solution by empowering you with the brain-based learning
strategy necessary for quickly targeting with laser precision precisely
what you need to learn. Let's get started...

Did you know that 80% of learning any new subject is mastering the
vocabulary? But what words should you be searching for in your text?
That is an easy question to answer. Authors usually make it easy to
spot the important words in a text by using different fonts, bolding,
underlining, changing the font color, or even putting these important
terms in a table. Begin scanning your first chapter, and make a
list of all the important vocabulary words that the writer treated
differently. Once you learn these word meanings you are 80% on your
way to mastering the subject.

Next, I want you to search for the names mentioned in your chapter.
If your writer thought these people were important enough to mention in
the text, then you are going to want to remember both their names and
their accomplishments. Add these names to your list.

Now it is time to search for any numbers, dates, or statistics. For
example, in a history book you might find the date "1492" mentioned as
the year that Columbus discovered the new world. In a geometry book,
you would find the value for pi, a term used to calculate the area of a
circle, as 3.14. Numbers can include product prices, codes, and
much, much more depending on the topic you are reading. Add these
important terms to your list of things to learn.

Next make a list of all the headings and sub-headings in your text.
Headings and sub-headings perform the function of an index. They chunk
information into pieces your brain can learn. This is an important
part of super learning. Once you add these to your list move on to
your final target.

The last thing you need to find are the questions asked in each section
of your book. Questions are often found at the end of a chapter, but
many authors also scatter questions throughout the main text as well.
Questions represent the facts that the writer believes are important
for you to know. So important they are asking you to answer questions
about these facts to insure that you have learned them. Now you are
ready for the final step.

Once you have completed your list of words, names, numbers, headings,
and questions you are ready to begin super learning. Create two
columns in a word document. Place your target list in column one.
Now for the important part. In the second column you are going to
write down, in your own words, the following:
1. The definitions for your vocabulary words
2. The accomplishments of each individual
3. The significance and use for each number, date, or statistic
4. The four key points covered in each section of your text and,
5. The answers to every question asked by the author.

If you have all this information written down, what else would you need
to learn to master the information? Nothing. Super learning helps
your brain precisely target what is important and learn it in a
fraction of the time.

This simple system can be completely automated in a word table. I
have included this tip, and many more in a complimentary super learning
video you can view by going to SpeedReadingUniversity. I
know you are going to get very excited when you see how to take this
super learning strategy to the next level. Best of all it is free for
you to learn.

The #1 Secret To Reading Faster

Comments (239)

howard-crop-

Can reading faster change your life?

Imagine being able to recite the details of a text in an morning
business meeting , and do the exact same thing at an afternoon class,
all from reading both books during breakfast. Imagine knowing the
precise answers to the questions your clients ask at a meeting, and
then knowing precisely what questions will appear on an exam at school
that afternoon. And imagine making more money, getting higher grades,
and having more time for the things that really matter to do. You can
have this and much, much more by reading faster. Strap on your seat
belt and prepare yourself for an exciting journey where you will learn
the top secret of the world's fastest reader for reading faster.

Strangely, the secret to reading faster is intimately linked to how you
drive a car. Let me explain. It is common to read the road while
driving in a car at 70 miles per hour. Interestingly, you read the
road in four directions: front, back, left, and right. At the same
time you need to monitor your dashboard, read the road signs, follow
your driving directions, and watch for road hazards. Yet it is so
boring that you turn on the radio, talk to friends, and often to people
on the phone. Often you perform all of these tasks at the same
time. Yet, an average person only reads about 200 words per minute in
a text while viewing it in one direction. Even worst, you probably
will only remember about 10% of what you read the next day. So why is
multi-tasking while reading the road in a car, easier than reading a
book? The answer to this question holds the top secret to reading
faster. Let's learn this secret now...

While reading the road in a car, your brain processes all the
information visually. In fact, you see the road and all the related
information similarly to viewing a movie. Reading a book is
dramatically different. While reading a book, there seems to be a
little person in the back of your head. This little person looks
through your eyes and reads the book aloud:
ONE...WORD...AT...A...TIME. While reading your eyes are hearing the
information on the page instead of seeing it. That is what slows you
down. Let `s do a little experiment to prove this.

Take a look at a piece of fine grained wooden furniture. Imagine you
had to describe the grain in the wood to someone over the telephone.
There simply aren't enough words to capture all the details that your
eyes instantly see while looking at the wood. The same is true
while reading. Training your brain to view a text like a movie can
immediately increase your speed by 100% or greater.

Learning to read visually is the first step to reading faster. As
the world's fastest reader, I am committed to helping your family and
you maximize your reading speed. I have created a free video lesson
that is chock full of powerful strategies for reading faster and
learning more that you can view at SpeedReadingUniversity
It has been my pleasure to share with you my most powerful strategy for
reading faster, and I look forward to offering you even more ways to
unlock your learning ability on my web site.

Sites that are 'copies of copies' and cloaked sites which include Zorgium keywords presented to search engine crawlers yet garbage content presented to human visitors were hosted on thousands of IP addresses and domains registered immediately after the introduction of Zorgium in November of 2009. The Hostgator/'The Planet'/Softlayer datacenters in Texas seem to be the epicenter of this activity in conjunction with anonymously registered domains of various TLD's but primarily .info domains at Godaddy which, in our opinion, has some sort of connection to the domains of goldmint.in and goldmint.org.
